Used and or Vintage Bikes and Components.

The bins are full of vintage parts

Over the years The Bike Stand has acquired lots of new and used parts. These have started to become quite collectable. Who would have ever guessed that. Shipping on all items is what we pay for shipping no handling charge ever. Most of all the items will go by Fedex and go with insurance for about 10.00. We will try and keep the list up dated but feel free to email us at The Bike Stand . I have been taken advantage of with over seas sales so unless you can figure out how I can get paid with out you taking the money back I will not sell to people out of the USA. Sorry it just takes the fun out of it. I try my best to give real descriptions of the parts but please ask very detailed Questions by email if you need more or better information. I can even get more pictures on some items but please not on some small 10.00 type items. So just email away with any questions about what we have in stock or condition of the parts. If you would like it just call in with your credit card number or send a check or money order to.

A few things on vintage parts before you go on. First all the parts are kept in plastic zip lock bags and they are all housed in large rubber made bins in the basement of the shop so if you call me up and ask about a part, I will have to go down in the basement find the rubber made bin marked with that type of part you are asking about. Go through all the different parts to find the one you are asking about bring it up to tell you more about the part. So because the shop needs regular retail sales to keep open I can not do it that way please you need to email me all the questions and save the calls for when you want to pay for it. Second thing is this vintage stuff is very fun for me but trust me it is not profitable in any way. The amount of time I have to put into every part I list is so much that it would be better just to sell it off as a lode and go spend more time on the new stuff. Think about it each and ever part that is listed here has to be photographed described and talked about again and again. I get calls asking me to take apart some derailleur to look at the spring to tell them the condition of it. New parts one photograph and one description for one part and I can sell ten of the same with out ever looking in the box. With this vintage stuff I love it and will still play with it but at a cost to making money and paying rent so please try and use your emails to keep the time away from working down for me.
The next thing with Vintage parts. They are VINTAGE they are not meant to be used as a modern day replacement part. I think they are cool but trust me I ride a modern bike and ride the old stuff sparingly. These parts are ment to help bring back that old classic bike of yours not to keep your day to day rider on the road.

"How much.......is my old bike worth?"
As you folks must know, I get these all the time via the web site and phone calls.
As you may imagine, through the thebikestand.com, I get very many requests for placing value on vintage bikes. (I need to make a robo-response so I do not have to one-finger type this so many times..) In this case, you should know that without detailed pictures and description, no one can guess how much any bike might fetch.
BUT here is my informed opinion on the general topic:
Vintage bike value & sell-ability.
  1. Original condition is very important, in both parts and finish, including decals. Restoring, i.e. repainting, hugely damages much of the value that might have been there. Repainted bikes are harder to sell to collectors, no matter how good the paint job is...
  2. A brand should be well known; nostalgia drives most buyers. High quality great workmanship means very little if it is an obscure make. Not fair but true.
  3. Older is almost always better, but see no. 1.
  4. "Fancier" models trump lower-in-the-range models.
  5. Historical provenance helps value a lot, but it must be proven, have unassailable documents to confirm claims.
  6. Once the attempt to sell commences, many high quality digital pictures are needed, as well as detailed descriptions of every components and precise physical dimensions of frame and parts. Presentation is very important.
  7. eBay + Paypal is still probably the best way to sell. Yes it costs 15% or whatever, but you get a 'relatively' safe world wide exposure and millions of potential buyers, this cannot be matched by any other means. Start high and let the market tell you if that is not going to work. It costs a pittance to place an auction; they get you when it sells.
  8. Check eBay sold auctions (via various searches) to see if a similar item has sold & for how much.
Best of luck Steven Willis

Complete Bikes.

  1. Used-Benotto champagne 61 cm center to center and 63 cm center to top of seat tube, with a 57.5 top tube. Full Columbus frame with Benotto drop outs. The fun part with this vintage bike is the Gipiemme, pronounced GPM, group. Not found very often but a good working well made parts. The Gipiemme 172.5 cranks, brakes, pedals, and derailleurs all look and work great. The hubs and rims are Campagnolo. The bars, 64-42, and stem, 12 cm, are Cinelli. This bike looks to have low miles but I do not know the history of it. Priced to sell at 999.99.pictures
  2. Used-Gitane Service Course 60 cm center to center, 61.5 center to top with a 58 cm top tube. this very clean purple bike has a 1971 dated Nuovo Record rear derailleur and that seems right for this bike. From it's Unicanitor saddle to it's Mafac Competition brakes this looks very original. The new owner pulled it out of a Vermont basement and repack the bearings and cleaned it up. The new parts are tires, tape and chain that is it. The only real problem with this bike is it is too big for Henry. So I am listing this wonder here for him. The price of this gem is 999.99 and as you know we can pull this apart and get more than that for it. So, If you want to start riding a very clean vintage bike this may be the one for you. pictures
  3. Used-Motobecane Jublee Sport 52 cm center to top 53.5 center to center seat tube with a 55 cm top tube. This bright yellow French bike is just about as new as you can get. I would guess there is less then 50 miles on this bike almost like it was put in a time capsule. This is set up with a mixture of early Japanese and French parts. The derailleurs are Suntour Blue Line and the seat post, bar, stem and crank are French. It has 27 inch wheels and a very quirky seat post. The tubing is Columbus Gamma. Mafac Racer gold side pulls, Gold Normandy hubs with Campy flat lever QR's, Rigida alloy rims, Simplex alloy rear derailleur I think is call a Super LJ but do not remember, and a Stronglight 93 gold crank. I am listing this for my friend Dave. He wanted a vintage bike since we all have them and he put this sweet ride together but a short time later got another one that fits him better. His loss is your gain so for only 599.99.pictures

This bike is straight with a little rust and needs to be rebuilt for the grand total of 249.99.pictures

  9. Used-Peckham Frank Peckham was a Grumman aircraft engineer who was a club cyclist living and working on Long Island. In the late 70's, knowing that he possessed the skills and tools, he decided to try his hand at frame building. His work was so nice that his fellow riders began to ask for his work. Over the following 20 plus year period he built exactly 197 frames. He always worked with the highest quality materials, demonstrating exceptional skills of fit and finish. He even did his own paint work using, as I understand it, an Imron two part system. His aim was to build the very best custom bicycle in all cases. This 53 center to top 52 center to center with a 56 top tube blue Columbus tubing bike with Campagnolo drop outs with 126 mm rear spacing frame with Dura-Ace headset is in need of a proper paint job but other then that it is clean and straight and only 399.99. pictures

Rims

I try and pick out any damaged rims and toss them out but about half of these rims were not built up for me to check. So I lay them against a new rim and compare them.
